Showers

Tiled showers are one of our specialties. When it comes to installing tile in your shower one of the most important aspects of the shower is never even seen.

The work done before the tile installation needs to be precise and effective to ensure any water that makes it past the tile and grout goes down the drain and not into your walls and subfloor. This can cause major damage to your home! Most people and sadly even some contractors believe that tile and grout are waterproof, however, that is not the case. If steps are skipped during the preparation of the shower and waterproofing, you could find yourself with a leaking shower.

Unfortunately, many of my clients call me after they start to notice excessive mildew growing on their grout joints or see damage to the sheetrock or baseboard directly next to their new shower. This is often the result of a shower not properly prepared for tile installation. Unfortunately, if you can see water damage from a leaking shower, in most cases the only fix is a complete remodel. It can sometimes take years for a leaky shower to show itself on the surface, meanwhile, the damage is taking place inside the walls.

There are multiple acceptable and TCNA (Tile Council of N. America) approved ways to prepare a shower for tile installation. I am familiar with all these standards and depending on your tile choice, location, and budget I will always use one of the approved and time tested methods for shower tile installation and waterproofing. Many of the materials manufacturers offer great warranties when using their complete product line and I am happy to help you register for the warranty.

Building a shower is like making a cake. You cannot skip steps and expect it to be beautiful and delicious. Some people can make a tasty cake but the presentation is poor, on the other hand, some might make their cake look good on the outside, but the taste leaves a lot to be desired! Just like it takes a real professional to bake both a good looking and delicious cake, it also takes a real professional to build a functional and beautiful tiled shower.

When considering a large investment like a tiled shower, we urge you to take your time when choosing both the tile itself and the contractor you will hire. Take into consideration these 5 points.

  1. Does the contractor specialize in shower tile installation?
  2. What materials are being used for the waterproofing of the substrate?
  3. Will a Flood Test be performed on the shower pan?
  4. Does the manufacturer of the installation products offer a warranty?
  5. Does the contractor offer a warranty on the workmanship?

We recently moved to the Rutland area and were searching for a flooring guy. When we called Rutland tile Co and spoke to Kaleb,he got us into his schedule right away. He came out to see our tile job and was very informative .Soon after he ordered the materials we needed and scheduled the installation. When the day arrived, Kaleb was on time and explained what he needed to do, and got right to work. We did 3 rooms and it was not an easy job.Kaleb worked long and hard...The results were more than we expected..great job !!!

Kaleb did our very tricky large-format porcelain tile kitchen backsplash, which goes from the countertop to the bottom of the upper cabinets. He had thought out a plan before he came, but was also very open to listening to our ideas. At the same time, my recommendation is to always ask for Kaleb’s opinion on what will work best and why. It was hard to find anyone with the skills and experience to do this, but Kaleb had both, as well as professionalism — he came when he said he would, stayed until the project was finished, and was very neat during the whole process. And he has very high standards, for himself and others. Kaleb is coming back to do a custom silicone color to better match the tiles, as the one we chose turned out a bit darker than the silicone sample stick indicated it would be. In his words, he wants us to be happy!

Kaleb did an amazing job installing a stone fireplace surround. He was quick to respond to our request for the project and communicated expectations and provided good recommendations for the materials and layout. He had such attention to detail yet was able to finish the project quickly and left no dust or cleanup for us to do. I would highly recommend him!

Kaleb replaced our walk in shower floor after we had a leak. Right off the bat he was on top of things, responsive and professional. He stopped by to assess what was needed ahead of time so he would be prepared to work. He showed up when he said he would, communicated with us and got the job done. He is very clean (a plus with tile dust) and also offered us guidance on our kitchen backsplash. He also answered all of my husbands questions and entertained him. Highly recommend him!
